Following the success of previous editions, the European Society for Photobiology is pleased to announce the 8th Edition of the ESP Photobiology School, which will take place in beautiful Brixen–Bressanone (South Tyrol, Italy) from June 15 to 20, 2026.
Full details on the program, registration, and logistics are available on the ESP website –> Education –> Photobiology School (please note that the deadline for early registration with a discounted fee is March 31st).
The ESP Photobiology School aims to provide participants with a comprehensive overview of the major areas of photobiology, covering both fundamental principles and their applications across diverse, multidisciplinary fields — from the effects of climate change on biological systems to light sensing in living organisms, the impact of light on plants, animals, and humans, and the use of light in biology and medicine.
The course is primarily intended for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, but it is also open to MSc students and professional scientists seeking an introduction to photobiological sciences.
The School features both introductory and advanced lectures delivered by leading experts in Physical & Chemical Photobiology, Environmental Photobiology, Sensory Photobiology, Plant Photobiology, Human Photobiology, Photomedicine, and Photodynamic Therapy.
Participants will also have the opportunity to present their research during poster sessions. Posters will be evaluated by the School’s faculty, and the presenters of the best posters will receive a travel fellowship to attend the 2027 ESP Congress. An optional final exam will be offered at the end of the course; students who pass will receive an exam certificate and become eligible to apply for the ESP Supplement to the PhD Degree.
In addition, the School offers a rich social program designed to foster interaction and networking among participants. This aspect is consistently highlighted by students as one of the most valuable features of the School, often leading to new scientific collaborations and lasting personal connections.
We look forward to welcoming you in Brixen!
